Marie Fitzgibbon Dies Here
Had Made Three Year Fight Against Ill Health; Burial Tomorrow From St. Brigid's
Played Best Vaudeville Circuits
Marie Fitzgibbon, 44 years old, passed away at 8:30 Wednesday morning at the home of her sister, Mrs. Walter Brines, Union street, following a three weeks illness during which time she had been confined to her bed. Her ill health dates back three years, during which time she made a valient fight for life, but was unable to win over the cancer which caused her death.
Miss Fitgibbon is not only known throughout Midland County but is well known in many cities of the United States where she played for 22 years as one of the leading vaudeville actresses. She was known as "The Big Story Teller" and handled this act alone. Her quick Irish Wit helped her in her stage work and a phenominal rise followed her first stage work in Midland. A Midland man who happened to be in Los Angeles tells of seeing her in one of that city's largest theatres. She was always glad to have some one from her home town greet her on such occasions.
Miss Fitzgibbon, was born May 30, 1883, at Limerick Ireland and came to Midland with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick H. Fitzgibbon when only four years old. She attended the local schools and grew up in Midland. For twenty-two years she was on the stage, but always made Midland her headquarters.
During the war she was active in organizing the local chapter of the Red Cross and gave freely of her time to aid "the boys" both during and after the war. For a time she operated a theatre here. On many occasions while in Midland for a short stay she directed local home plays with great success.
Those who survive are: two brothers, Jack of Midland, and Pat H. of Lansing; two sisters, Kate Fitzgibbon of Boston and Mrs. Nora Brines. Her nephew Robert Dickson has made his home with her for several years.
The funeral will be held at St. Brigid's church Friday morning at nine o'clock, Rev. J. B. Illig officiating and interment will take place in the Catholic cemetery.
