Lady Lake, Fla. - Phillip Andrew Fuller Sr., 84, a resident of Lady Lake, Fla., died Friday, May 20, 2011, at the VA Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2011, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of service Monday.

Phillip was born August 20, 1926, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Edgar and Dorothy (Yeargain) Fuller. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. In earlier years, he worked at the Davenport Post Office. He then opened his own business as an insurance agent for American Family Insurance. He married Stella Burkhardt on November 29, 1982.

Upon retirement, they moved to their dream home in Lady Lake, Fla., where he resided until his illness and death on a visit to see family in Iowa.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Old Friends Club, the Masonic Lodge, the Kaaba Shrine and the Mohassen Grotto.

He loved fishing and golfing. You've got the Feather now, Dad.

He is survived by his wife, Stella, Lady Lake, Fla.; his son, Phillip (Gloria) Fuller Jr., Bettendorf, Iowa; his daughters, Cheryle (Terry) Haygood, San Diego, Calif., Melissa (Gary) Thomas, San Diego, Calif., and Gretchen (Blaine) Eckstein, Sherwood, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his stepchildren, Ken Burkhardt, Amboy, Ill., Barb (Phil) Dismore, Bettendorf, Iowa, Rita (Al Cornish) Burkhardt, Bettendorf, Iowa, Shelly (Craig) Pantzlaff, Bettendorf, Iowa, Frank Burkhardt, Calamus, Iowa, Dennis (Sue) Burkhardt, Davenport, Iowa, and Joe (Jennifer) Burkhardt, Chester, Va.; 17 step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jim, Paul, Walter and Ed.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Iowa Masonic Home and the doctors and staff at the VA Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, for the excellent and compassionate care of Mr. Fuller.
