GEORGE R. CAMBRIDGE PHILADELPHIA NATIVE
George R. "Bob" Cambridge, 72, Englewood, Fla., a native of Philadelphia, died May 9 in Venice, Fla., where he had been hospitalized for a week.

Mr. Cambridge was an ironworker with Local 60, Syracuse, and was a life member of Rotonda West (Fla.) Elks Lodge 2710.

Born June 26, 1928, in Potsdam, son of George and Adeline Nicolett Cambridge, he attended Philadelphia schools.

A World War II-era veteran, he served in the Navy from 1946 to 1948 and re-enlisted in September 1950 during the Korean War.

He married Doris Lucille Lawler on Feb. 4, 1951, at St. Michael's rectory, Antwerp. She died June 5, 1954, at age 20 of injuries she suffered in a car accident.

He later married Geraldine Rupp.

Surviving beside his wife are two stepsons, John Sprauge, Rochester, and Neil Sprauge, Warsaw; two stepdaughters, Linda Sturgel, Baltimore, and Mary Murry, Caledonia; a brother, Richard, Parishville, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The body was cremated. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Cemetery, Evans Mills.

Arrangements were with Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood.

He was born June 26, 1928, in Potsdam, N.Y., and came to the Charlotte County area in 1988 from Liverpool, N.Y. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was an iron worker with Local 60 in Syracuse, N.Y. He was a life member of Rotonda West Elks Lodge 2710.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine; two stepsons, John Sprauge of Rochester, N.Y., and Neil Sprauge of Warsaw, N.Y.; two stepdaughters, Linda Sturgel of Baltimore and Mary Murry of Caledonia, N.Y.; a brother, Richard of Parishville, N.Y.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There will be no local services. Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood Chapel, is in charge.
