Phyllis Jean Gugelmeyer was born on January 29, 1927, in Davenport, the daughter of John Joseph and Ruth Ann (Frey) Gugelmeyer. She was a 1945 Davenport High School graduate. Phyllis married Ordean "Bud" McDermott on April 28, 1945, in Davenport at Newcomb Presbyterian Church.
Phyllis was known as a fabulous cook and loved entertaining friends and family at the McDermott cabin on the Wapsi where she also spent many hours fishing for catfish. She and her husband Bud travelled many miles in their recreational vehicle, vacationing for several years at Gulf Shores, Alabama. Phyllis enjoyed celebrating Christmas and every day carried the spirit of that holiday in her heart.
She was a member of the Clinton Needle Point Guild for many years.
She is survived by her husband Bud of Clinton; five children, Dean (Cindy) McDermott Jr. of Bettendorf; Sharon (Carl) Warren of Athens, Ga.; Debra (Steve) Anderson of Golden, Colo.; Kurt (Carol) McDermott of Bettendorf; and Barb (Ken) Zenger of Burr Ridge, Ill. Survivors also include 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one sister, Carol Power of Davenport and one brother, Richard Gugelmeyer of Garden City, Kan.
