US Congressman from New York. Admitted to the New York bar in 1846, he was District Attorney of Madison County from 1847 to 1850. As a member of the Whig Party he won a special election to the Thirty-third US Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Gerritt Smith, and represented New York's 22nd District from November 1854 to March 1855. He then successfully ran for the Thirty-fifth Congress and served 1857 to 1859. Suffering from poor health, Goodwin did not seek a third term and died in Hamilton, New York at 36.
