Derek L. Schneider, our beloved son, brother, nephew, uncle and good friend, passed away Wednesday, September 28th at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City from injuries sustained in a single vehicle accident. He was 29 years old.

Services for Derek are scheduled for Monday, October 3rd, 2:00pm at First Christian Church in Ponca City of which he was a member. Rev. Larry Metzger officiating. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City, OK. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home of Ponca City.

Derek Lane Schneider was born on December 10th, 1981 in Ponca City to Richard Schneider and Sherri (Adkins) Schneider. Derek attended Ponca City Schools and graduated from Ponca City HS in 2000. His school years were filled with numerous sports and other childhood activities. He continued his participation while in High School, lettering in football and basketball.

Derek loved the company of friends, eating steak and potatoes, summer time, going to the lake and bird hunting, He enjoyed exploring his families genealogy and listening to traditional country and western music. He enjoyed BBQing various meats and was an avid arrowhead hunter.

A man of so few words but those few spoken words were more than offset by his integrity, thoughtfulness, compassion and genuine love for his family and friends. He loved small children especially his beloved nephews, Laken and Cole Clowdus. Seldom was he seen without a "Big Gulp" fountain drink and his trademark smile would light up any room he entered.

After High School, Derek worked in the agricultural and construction trades. He was employed at the time of his passing with Environmental Action Inc in the ConocoPhillips refinery .

Derek was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, C.L. Schneider. Survivors include his father, Richard Schneider and his wife Hallie of Katy, TX. His mother Sherri Treat and her husband Stephen of Ponca City, OK. A sister, Ashley Clowdus and her husband Gene of Bartlesville, OK along with his two very special nephews, Laken and Cole.

One brother, Jeromy Schneider of Medford, OK.

His paternal grandmother; Maxine Schneider and maternal grandparents; Glen and Dora Adkins, all of Ponca City, OK. as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A special thank you to the trauma staff at OU Medical Center for their care, compassion and dignity toward him and his family during those last difficult days of his life journey.

As a living legacy to Derek, a memorial college fund has been established in his name at Eastman National Bank, Ponca City or Newkirk, OK.

Contributions made will be used to establish a college education fund for his nephews, Laken and Cole Clowdus whom he dearly loved.
