Laura was the daughter of Joseph H. and Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Jane Stevens Johns. Siblings were John, Mary, Sarah, Martha, Eliza Ann, Mattie, Eva Lee and Alma. She married Jasper Newton Akers on September 22, 1874 in Ray County, Missouri. Their children were Joseph B., Ethel, Maude and Nellie. Her step-children from Jaspers first marriage were John, Mary and Oliver. Paternal grandparents were Anderson Johns and Nancy Key.
