John H. Winter died at his home in Olpe this morning at 1:13 o’clock, from nervous prostration and old age. Mr. Winters was born in Fulton county, Pa., in 1821. He was one of the early settlers of Olpe, and was the oldest man in Center township. He was married to Esther Smith, who survives him at the age of 77. Four children, two sons and two daughters, were born to Mr. and Mrs. Winter. The sons, Vernon and Barton Winter, are living and were with their father during his sickness and at the time of his death.

In 1882, the Winters moved to Kansas, and settled in the Olpe neighborhood, where they have lived ever since. Mr. Winter became a member of the Christian church in 1847, and for sixty-one years lived a life consistent with his profession. He served several months in the Civil war in a Pennsylvania regiment, and was discharged for disability. He was a member of the Grand Army post at Olpe.

The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Methodist church in Olpe.

Rev. J.L. Masters, of Mound Valley, Kan., an old friend of the family, will conduct the funeral services.
