Son of John James and Mary Willis James. Served in Co. C, 30th GA Infantry, CSA. Died of wounds sustained at the Battle of Chickamauga, Georgia. Served with his brothers, Counsel S. James who died of disease at Savannah, Georgia on August 18, 1862, Sgt. Stephen M. James who was mortally wounded at Franklin, Tennessee on November 30, 1864 and died in December, 1864. Buried as an Unknown in the McGavock Confederate Cemetery in Frankin and Charles J. James who was last listed on the rolls of the regiment in December, 1862.
