A retired pipefitter and member of Plumbers & Steamfitters Union Local 198 and a former longtime resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at Lane Memorial Hospital, Zachary. He was 89, a resident of Clinton and a native of Lawrence County, Miss. He was a member of a Masonic lodge in Monticello, Miss., and a former member of Tilton United Methodist Church, Jayess, Miss. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. Visiting at Wilson Funeral Home chapel, Monticello, from 11 a.m. until service at 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment in Tilton United Methodist Church Cemetery, Jayess. Survived by his wife of 63 years, Roberta Mullins Smith, Clinton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teri and Warren Wilson, Baton Rouge, and Debbie and Phil Green, Clinton; a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Judy Smith, Aiken, S.C.; three sisters, two brothers, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, an infant daughter and a grandson, Randy Nettles. Pallbearers will be his grandson and other family members.
