Clyde Leonard Garrett (1885-1959) - Find a Grave Memorial

U.S. Congressman. He attended the Hankins’ Normal College and taught school at Sweetwater, Texas, (1906-07). He was a deputy tax collector, (1907-12), clerk of Eastland County, (1913-19), city manager of Eastland, (1922-23) and Eastland County judge, (1929-36). In 1937, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fifth and Seventy-sixth Congresses, serving until 1941. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was administrative officer in the office of the Secretary of Commerce, (1941-42) and staff specialist in the Office of War Information, in 1943. He was also technical assistant of the Veterans Administration, Washington, D.C. and Dallas, Texas, (1949-50) and manager of the Veterans Administration regional office, Waco, Texas, (1951-56).
