OBITUARY:
JOHN HELMS ADAMS SR.
Kansas, Overland Park - John Helms Adams Sr., 89, passed away November 30, 2007 peacefully at the home he shared with his wife, son and daughter-in-law.
John was born August 3, 1918 in Charleston, MS to Thomas and Harriet Adams. He attended school in Charleston where he enjoyed playing football. After graduating high school, he attended Draughns Business College in Memphis, TN. John enlisted in the Army in 1942. He served in the Philippines and Japan following the U.S. occupation, achieved the rank of Captain and returned home in 1946. In 1947 he married Joyce Marie Liming. The couple had two children, John Helms
Adams, Jr. and Thomas Liming Adams. During the couples marriage they lived in Greenwood, MS; Grenada, MS; North Little Rock, AR, Metairie, LA and Overland Park, KS. John's spent his career in the Cottonseed Oil Industry working for Mississippi Cottonseed Products, Southern Cotton Oil Co. and ADM prior to his retirementin 1988. He was active in Rotary, Lakewood United Methodist Church in North Little Rock, AR and Lenexa United Methodist Church, Lenexa KS. John is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Joyce; son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Tonya Adams; daughter-in-law Rhonda Adams; grandsons Scott Adams, Thomas Nichols, Matthew Nichols and his chosen grandson, Tyler Jordan; granddaughter Morgan Adams; great-granddaughter Kelli Adams; great-grandson Ayden Nichols and brother, Paul Adams. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, John Helms Adams, Jr.; his parents;sister Harriet; brothers
William, Thomas Jr., Clyde and Joe. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lenexa United Methodist Church, 9138 Caenen Lake Road, Lenexa, KS. Visitation will be Friday
from 10-11 a.m. at National Funeral Home, 2113 Commerce; Grenada, MS. Funeral services will be immediately following with burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Grenada, MS. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations in John's memory are sent to Lenexa United Methodist Church. Porter Funeral Home 913-438-6444
