Phillip Miller, son of Martin and his wife Marie, nee Fuss, was born December 6, 1875, at Niedermundjou [sic], in Russia, a colony, by the Volga River.
Soon after birth, he was brought to Holy Baptism which baptismal vow he renewed at his confirmation day in the Lutheran faith, to which he remained true and faithful until death.
In the year 1894, on the 13th day [of] February, he entered into Holy Matrimony with Lizzy Gummer. To this union nine children were born: four boys and five girls, one boy and one girls [sic] dying in infancy in the old country, and one girl, at the age of twelve [eight], preceeded [sic] him in death at Wilson, Kansas.
In 1909 [1905], he left his home country, like so many others at that time, coming to the United States, settling first in Ellsworth county, near Wilson, and afterwards living in Russell county, near Dorrance, until seven years ago when he moved into Dorrance, where he lived until his death which came to him on Saturday afternoon, at one o'clock, August 15. He had been bed-fast with arthritis which finally turned to dropsy, for five years, nine months, and twenty-eight days. He attained the age of 60 years, 8 months, and 9 days.
He leaves to mourn his departure, his sorrow-stricken wife, three sons, and three daughters, namely: Martin Miller and family of Dorrance; Philipp Miller and wife of Manhattan; George Miller and family, of Redwing; Amelia White and husband, of Wichita; Katharine Michaelis and family, of Susank; Chrintina [sic] Knoby and family, of Salina; one brother, Martin Miller, of Dorrance.
Funeral services were held at Dorrance, on Tuesday morning, Aug. 18, 1936, in the Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. Wm. J. Lind of Wilson, Kansas.
