DeFehr died Monday, March 6, 2006, in the Corn Heritage Village. He was born on Feb. 2, 1916, in Corn, the son of Cornelius John and Martha (Zielke) DeFehr.
Growing up in Corn, where his dad owned and operated DeFehr Implement Company, during his high school years, DeFehr learned the mechanic trade from his dad and worked on the family farm outside Corn.
He attended the Mennonite Brethren Church.On Dec. 16, 1936, DeFehr married his high school sweetheart, Emma Margaret Kleinsasser, in Dinuba, Calif.
Following their marriage, Ed and Emma lived on a farm near Corn, and he worked for his dad at the implement dealership which had been relocated to Weatherford.
In 1945, Ed moved his family to Weatherford. He and Emma were active members of the First Baptist Church where Ed served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher.
Ed and Emma built a home next door to their son and daughter-in-law on the Colorado River near Bay City, Texas where they spent the winter months.
While in Texas, they attended the First Baptist Church in Matagorda.
In 2003, due to failing health, Ed went to live at Corn Heritage Village. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home in Weatherford.
Survivors include a son, Keith DeFehr and his wife, Barbara of Bay City, Texas; one daughter, Karen Fleming of Weatherford; two grandchildren, Nadja Tové and Eric Fleming; two great-grandchildren, Micah Tové and Colton Fleming; and two step-grandchildren, Connor and Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Emma; and two brothers, Paul and Albert.
