Verba J. Bell, age 78, of Harrison, died on October 1, 2011, at the M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, TX. Verba was born on December 6, 1932, in Omaha, AR, the daughter of Robert Lee and Bertha Lela (Arnold) Barnes.

Fred and Verba joined the First Baptist Church of Jasper in 1951. They have been active and faithful members since that time. They have been married 60 years. Verba served as church secretary for 30 years. Verba commuted to Harrison where she worked at Levi Strauss. She later took a position at the Farmer's Coop in Jasper for two years then began a career with the Arkansas Department of Human Services that lasted 30 years.

The love she had for God, family and friends is evident to all those who have had the pleasure to meet her. Her children and grandchildren consider themselves blessed to have such a loving, supportive and giving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed traveling with her family and life long friends, Robert and Edna Burdine and Charlene and the late C.B. Hudson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother Jack Barnes and son-in-law Steve Hudson.

She is survived by her husband Fred J. Bell of the home; sons Dwayne and wife Elizabeth Bell of Ft. Smith, AR and Gene and wife Paula Bell of Mt. Judea; daughter Freda Hudson of Jasper, AR; two brothers, Ward Barnes of Harrison and Bobby Mac Barnes of Perryton, TX; two sisters, Joan Bray of Protem, MO. and Myrna Gahagan of Golden, MO; and a host of other family members and dear friends.

Services are 1 PM, Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Jasper with visitation 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the Roller-Christeson Funeral Home in Harrison. Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery at Omaha, AR with the Rev. Manuel Macks, Rev. David Stratton and Rev. David Faught speaking at the services.

Pallbearers will be grandsons; Billy Bell, Josh Bell, Cody Hudson, Heith Aldridge, Chris Grimes and Kyle Mallett.
