Son of the late Benson and Essie Carpenter (Gilstrap) Mahaffey; husband of the late Velma Osteen Gilstrap.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law,
Lamar "Poss" and Anna Gilstrap of Liberty; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Gilstrap of Greenville; half brothers, the Rev. Jack Mahaffey of Easley, and Fred Stanley Mahaffey and Vernon Mahaffey of Liberty; and a grandson, Kevin Gilstrap of Orlando, Fla.

He was predeceased by his wife; a daughter, Roberta Gilstrap Gillespie; a son, Wales D "Fargo" Gilstrap; a brother J.B. Gilstrap; and a half brother, Heyward Mahaffey.

Funeral services : November 16, 2005, graveside in Westview Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Jack Mahaffey and the Rev. Johnny Littleton.
