John Thompson, father of T. W.,
J. E. and W. F. Thompson; and for
many years a resident of this borough,
died at his home, Greenville,
Mercer co., on Sunday, March 23, 1879.
He was born in Mercer county
Nov. 22d 1806 and was seventy-two
years and four months old at the time
of his death. In his young manhood
he removed to Huntingdon county
where he married. Soon after he took
up his abode in this place where
he lived for at least thirty years,
or until January 1861, and where
his family was born and raised. On
the above date he removed to his
native county, where he remained until
his death. Mr. Thompson was an
earnest, faithful, useful Christian,
having been a working member of
the M. E. church nearly all of his
long life. He served his generation
well and now that he is fallen in sleep
all is well with him, and those who
mourn sorrow not as those without hope.
