Landon "Lanny" Woodruff, age 63 of Houston, Texas, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2011 from complications of heart disease. Lanny was born in Houston, Texas but lived most of his early years in Beaumont, Texas until he graduated from high school. He attended Stephen F Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in History. He taught public high school in Galveston, Texas for several years before entering the field of banking. It was from banking that he eventually retired. Military history, model railroading and his several dogs were his actual passions. He also loved attending the Round Top Antique Show and was very sorry that he would not be able to attend this year due to his health issues. He is survived by his life partner of 31 years, Gary Ward, his long time friend of 50 years, Dixie Deans of Beaumont, Texas, several cousins, especially Peggy and Rick Oustalet, from Louisiana and countless friends around the State of Texas. Per Lanny's wished he will be cremated and at this time there will be no service. In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be made to any of the following organizations: The Civil War Trust ( for preservation of Civil War Battlefields) at civilwar.org; The Gettysburg National Battlefield Museum Foundation at gettysburg.org; or The Houston SPCA at houstonspca.org.
