OBITUARY

Alfred Charles Buck, son of Charles and Julia (Hubbard) Buck, was born Nov. 30, 1900 in Henry, Ill. He passed away May 22, 1981 at the Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin, Kan. at the age of 80 years.

Most of his boyhood was spent in the McDonald area and he graduated from McDonald Rural High School in 1921. He received a pharmaceutical degree from the University of Nebraska and later worked for McMillan Drug in Bird City, Kan.

On Nov. 8, 1924 he was united in marriage with Jane M. Jenkins at Bird City. In 1928, they moved to McDonald where they took over the ownership of the drug store from Charles Benkelman.

Alfred dedicated his life and enthusiam to his wife, business and community. He was a member of the Federated Church of McDonald, McDonald Lodge No. 383 AF & AM, Progressive Chapter No. 396 OES, Atwood Chapter and Commandery, ISIS Shrine of Salina, Northwest Kansas Stamp Club and a charter member of the McDonald Lions Club. He received 50-year membership pins in Masons, Eastern Star and Lions Club. Alfred also enjoyed working with the schools and was recognized as "Mr. Alumni" at the 1960 reunion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jane, and a sister, Mary Ellen Davis Klinzman.

He is survived by a half-sister, Cecile Rummel of Colby; a half-brother, Charles F. Howard of McDonald; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held May 26, 1981, at the Federated Church in McDonald with Rev. Francis Harwerth officiating.

Jerry Knapp sang "In The Garden" and "Ivory Palaces" accompanied by Phyllis Wingfield.

Pallbearers were Frank Conley, Leroy Ginter, J. C. Gleason, Gayle Loker, Richard Payne, John Powell, Donald Threlkel and Leonard Vyzourek. Honorary pallbearers were Harry Archer, Floyd Craig, Claude Hamilton, Laverne Klepper, Claude Pickett and Ross Wingfield.

Interment was in Grace Cemetery at McDonald with Masonic graveside services delivered by Robert Jones.

A dinner for family was served by the Eastern Star at the Masonic Hall following the services.
