World War I Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Lieutenant, in the 24th Battalion, Victoria Australian Infantry. During the attack on Montbrehain, France, October 5, 1918, the 24th Australian Infantry suffered heavy casualties because of strongly defended German positions. Lieutenant Ingram, at the head of his platoon, rushed a post, captured nine machine-guns and killed forty-two Germans. Later, after his company had suffered more casualties, he took control of the situation once again, rallied his men under intense fire and led them forward. He rushed another fortification and overcame the serious resistance. Twice more that day he displayed great courage in the capture of enemy posts and the taking of sixty-two prisoners. For bravery and leadership of the men, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal. During World War II, he served with the Royal Australian Engineers and attained the rank of Captain.
