An 18-year-old Blackwell girl, Miss Bobbie Jean Fisher, a student nurse, died en route to Blackwell General Hospital Friday night after the car she was in crashed into a bridge seven and a half miles southeast of the city on the Blackwell-Ponca City shortcut. The wreck occurred about 10:30 P.M. Her mother Mrs. Susie Fisher, remained in Blackwell General Hospital Saturday night where she was treated for severe shock and bruises. Her condition was reported as improved.

Delbert W. Johns 48, who was driving the vehicle a 1947 Jeep Station, is being held for "Reckless Driving, no drivers license and manslaughter. Johns and two Blackwell girls ? and Lea McGilvrey were in the car but escaped injury.

Highway Patrolmen O. D. Day and G. M. Wood said the station wagon was going south, ran off the roadway, struck the bridge with the front fender. A steel pipe from the bridge went through the right front door, into Miss Fishers body. She was sitting in the back seat. Two Blackwell men, Clinton Gear-? and Gerald Walker, helped remove the pipe. Bobbie was rushed to the hospital in Roberts and Sons Funeral home ambulance and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Bobbie Fisher had arrived from Wichita, KS. Friday and they were traveling to Ponca City. Johns told officers "a big truck" approaching at a fast rate of speed on the shortcut road forced his station wagon off the road and into the bridge and kept going. The death boosted the Kay county death toll to 12 for the year. Funeral arrangements for Miss Fisher are pending with the Roberts and Sons Funeral in charge
