HARRINGTON, Dec 26 – Lester W. Burgess, 75, died here today at his home after a long illness.

He was born in Otis, son of Charles A., and Ann F. (Woods) Burgess. He attended the Otis schools and at the age of 19 went into the monument workers trade with A. M. Thornberg of South Addision, and Alden Davis of Machias.

After buying the Thornberg business, he moved it to this town and had been here for more than 35 years. He had worked until his health failed.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Louisa (Babbage) Burgess, whom he married in 1893; six sons, Merrill, Harold, Maurice, Mariner and Berlin all of Harrington, and Walter of Addison; seven daughters, Mrs. Daniel Frye, Mrs. Kenneth A. Smith, and Mrs,. Frank Woodworth, all of Harrington; Mrs Shirley Porter of Whitman, Mass, Mrs. Mertie Nickerson of Holbrook, Mass, Mrs. Theodore Mitchell of Bar Harbor, and Mrs. Hilda Look of Addison; two brothers, Linwood of Franklin and Enoch of Milbridge; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie B. Harding of Franklin, and Mrs. Carrie Nichols of Cleveland, Ohio; 38 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at the home Tuesday at two p.m. by the Rev. Earl Bigelow.

Burial will be in the family lot in Forest Hill cemetery.
