Born Jan. 31, 1936, in Mount Lena, Md., she was the daughter of the late Melvin Preston Monninger and Helen Monninger Divel.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, George W. Carpenter Sr.; a son, George W. Carpenter Jr. and wife, Dawn, of Clear Spring, Md.; a grandson, Stephen R. Mayes of Hagerstown; two stepgrandchildren, Josh Lowman of Silver Spring, Md., and Amanda Crawford of Williamsport, Md.; a great-granddaughter, Myah Crawford of Williamsport; five stepbrothers; a stepsister; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Marshall Divel; two brothers, Leroy Monninger and Jacob Monninger; a sister, Della Schuler; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert V. Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
