Great-Grandpa MAY was a very distinguished looking man. He had brown eyes, was 74" tall, with a thin build. He built his home, the "Old May Place", in 1898 and was a Farmer (cotton, corn, sugar cane) & made syrup.

He is buried by his parents and many, many other MAY relatives.

He married Prim Rose JOHNSON on 03 Feb 1900 in Caldwell Parish and they had 11 children: Infant Daughter, Odis Elmoe, Ethel Epsie, Gladys, Linnie Gertrude, Robert Ocie, Cassie Rose, Robert Ivy Jr (Son), Lorene and George E. (Dude) MAY.

Robert I. May, Sr., of Ward 9 passed away on Tuesday, April 17, in a Columbia hospital after a short illness. He was 91 years of age and one the oldest citizens of the parish.
Services were held at 2pm this afternoon at the Hickory Springs Baptist Church just over the Caldwell line in Jackson Parish, with the Rev. A. A. Calhoun of Columbia Heights in charge. Interment followed in nearby cemetery under the direction of the Riser and Son Funeral Home of Columbia.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs Primrose May of Ward 9; three sons: Robert O. May, R.I. May and George E. May, all residents of the Cotton Plant community of Ward 9; six daughters: Mrs Mary Cole, Mrs Gladys Broom and Mrs Gertrude West all of Ward 9; Mrs Cassie McBroom of Kinder, Mrs Lorene Bell of West Monroe, Mrs Clifford Wells of Ruston; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, D.M. May, president of the Caldwell Parish School Board and member of Ward 9; Elmore May, retired planter of Ward 5, and J.C. May of near Grayson; two sisters: Mrs Dottie Simpson of Serepta and Mrs Ona Harper of Maryland.
