Charles W. Chuck Cummins, 81, of Neoga, passed away at 12:35 a. m. Sunday, October 21, 2007, at his residence in Neoga, Illinois. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2007, in the Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Connie Jenkins officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2007, at the Swengel - O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, and for one hour before the service time at the church. Burial will be in the Neoga Memorial Cemetery with military rites conducted by the members of the V. F. W. Post 4598 of Greenup, Illinois. Chuck was born October 15, 1926, in Bridgeport, Illinois, the son of Nellie Cummins Buchanan. He married Alice " Akiko " Asato on November 19, 1954; she survives. Mr. Cummins leaves his wife Alice Akiko Cummins of Neoga, Illinois; three sons, Charles W. Cummins, Jr., and his wife Kara of Conroe, Texas, Terry and Jerry Cummins, both of Colorado Springs, Colorado; four daughters, Patty Pollock and husband Gary of Orange, Texas, Janie Jayne and husband Ken of Newton, Illinois, Melinda White and husband Duane, of Neoga, Illinois, and Kay Crowder and husband Rick of Toledo, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, one sister and one nephew. Mr. Cummins was a retired Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force after 23 years of service, and he was also a retired publisher and editor of the Neoga News from 1975 until 1999. Chuck was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and a member of the Neoga American Legion, both of Neoga, Illinois, and the Cumberland County Housing Authority. Memorials may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church, or to Heartland Christian Village, both of Neoga, Illinois.
