Clifford J. ‘Smitty' Smith

Clifford J. "Smitty" Smith, 81, died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Greenwood Health and Living Center. He was a resident of Greenwood.

He was born July 6, 1920, in Whiteland. His parents were Thomas and Flossie (Wilson) Smith. He married Pauline Bingham Smith on Dec. 28, 1940, in Kentucky. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Judy Weigart of Indianapolis and Brenda Mitchell of Fairland; a sister, Shirley Cash of Greenwood; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was a farmer in Greenwood and had a vegetable market on West Main Street for 60 years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 7968 in Whiteland.

The Rev. Tom Jackson will conduct a service at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Jessen Funeral Home in Whiteland. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in White River Township.
