Old friends at Maple Hill were deeply grieved this week when news came of the death of Mrs. Cora A. Goddard, aged 86, at the home of her daughter Mrs. Cora Perry in Cumberland, Md., on Monday. She had been sick for some months.

The J.H. Goddard family was well known at Maple Hill in the ‘90's when they owned the Jackson ranch at Vera. They moved to Topeka in 1904 for a few years until she and her husband moved to Standish, Mass. After her husband's death in 1919, she lived with her daughter, Mrs. F.C. Beck in Topeka, but since 1935 has lived with Cora in Cumberland.

Mrs. Goddard was born in Worcester, Mass., Nov. 9, 1853, and came to Vera in 1885. She was a most loveable woman, ready to help in all good works, a splendid wife and mother and a valued friend to all who knew her.
Mrs. Goddard is survived by two sons, Henry of Oklahoma City, and Ben of Cleveland; two daughters, Mrs. F.C. Beck of Topeka, and Mrs. Karl G. Perry, of Cumberland, Md.; one brother, 4 sisters, 9 grand and 5 great grandchildren.
Private services were held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at a Topeka mortuary, with private burial in Mount Hope cemetery.

(also) page 5, Vera News – A wire stated that Mrs. Julius Goddard died at the home of her daughter Cora in Maryland, Feb. 12, and she is being brought to Topeka for burial beside her husband. Mrs. Goddard has been ill for many months. She is well remembered by her old neighbors here and was a much loved and admired woman.
