Boda was the 9th of 10 children born to Thomas Lockhart, "Lock" Wamsley Jr. and Mary Jane Search Wamsley. Bodanot was named for a Cherokee Indian Chief, Elias Boudinot, educated in the foreign mission school at Cornwell, Conn.

Boda was 8 years old when came to the Black Hills from Colorado with his mother and siblings by wagon in 1883.

He married Anna Mae Blake Oct 22, 1901 and was married 50 years. He was as an engineer for the steam locomotive "The Natalie." He also worked in Nampa, ID. He and Anna had 4 children, Harold, who preceded him in death, Della Mary, Oscar Blake, and Edith Ione Durst.
