HANCOCK - James W. Swain, 65, of Millstone Circle, died Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Dec. 12, 1933, in Little Orleans, Md., he was the son of the late William Webster and Maxine G. Schriver Swain.

He retired from Mack Trucks as a machinist.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was a member of Piney Plains United Methodist Church, Little Orleans.

He was a life member of VFW Post 655, McConnellsburg, Pa.; Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion, Hancock; UAW Local 171; Mack Golden Bulldogs, Hagerstown; Loyal Order of Moose; and National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen Bishop Swain, whom he married Dec. 31, 1957; four daughters, Pamela Smith of Big Cove Tannery, Pa., Starla Ward of Franklin, Tenn., Tina Thomas of Greencastle, Pa., and Sherri Kratz of Hancock; a son, Dennis Swain of Hancock; six sisters, Shirley R. Keefer of Clear Spring, Norma M. Ridenour of Big Pool, E. Joanne Gordon of McConnellsburg, Barbara E. Rockwell of Nokomis, Fla., Delores M. Spielman of Mooresville, N.C., and Gloria J. Hutzel of Hagerstown; a brother, Gerald E. Swain of Hancock; 12 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Hancock Untied Methodist Church, 168 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Edward James will officiate. Burial will be in Piney Plains United Methodist Cemetery, Little Orleans, with military honors by Tri-State Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church, which will be open from 2 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday one hour prior to services.

Memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, 3120 Timanus Lane, Baltimore, MD 21244; Hancock Volunteer Fire Co., Fulton Street, Hancock, MD 21750; or Hancock Rescue Squad Inc., 14734 Warfordsburg Road, Hancock, MD 21750.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Hancock.
