John Martin Craig, 93, passed away on Sept. 26, 2011, in Wheat Ridge, Colo.

He was born in Garden City on Nov. 18, 1917, and attended public school there, graduating from Garden City High School in 1935. He was a World War II Navy veteran and former Chief of Police of Garden City. Later, he moved to Topeka, where he became Chief Deputy, U.S. Marshal for the State of Kansas. After 24 years of Federal government service, he retired and worked for the Kansas Appellate Court Clerks Office in Topeka. He retired from State service after 16 years.

He was a member of many organizations including the American Legion, Scottish Rite and Arab Shrine. Family and friends will remember him for his kindness and generosity and for his love of animals.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert J. and Ottie F. Martin Craig; a sister, Bobbie; two brothers, Ronald and Grover; and two wives, Nadine Dimitt Craig and Maria Sartorius Craig. Surviving are brothers, Virgil of Garden City, and Richard of Sun Lake, Ariz.; sisters, Bettie Clemann of Westminster, Colo., and Ruphell Pilcher of Rogers, Ark.; sons, James of Anaheim Hills, Calif., and Robert of Arvada, Colo.; and three grandchildren, Michael, Stephen and Michelle.

A gravesite service was held at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City
