Rev. Dr. Stephen Livingstone Baldwin was the son of Stephen Livingstone Boone and Abby Eliza (Condit) Baldwin. Helen "Nellie" M. (Gorham) Baldwin was his 1st wife. They were married September 8, 1858. Helen died March 16, 1861. Esther E. (Jerman) Baldwin was his 2nd wife. They were married April 15, 1862. Esther died February 26, 1910. Rev. Dr. Baldwin was a minister in the Newark Conference and New England Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church and a missionary in China 1858-1881. He was the founder of The Chinese Recorder in 1869, and was its editor at Fuzhou until 1882. He was a pastor in Bloomfield and Newark, NJ and Nyack, NY 1881-1883. He was recording secretary of Methodist Episcopal Foreign Missionary Society from 1883 until his death. He died of typhoid fever.

BALDWIN--At the residence of his son, Stephen C. Baldwin, 127 Remsen st., Brooklyn, on Monday, July 28, 1902, of typhoid fever, Rev. Stephen Livingston Baldwin, D. D., recording secretary of the Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church, in the 68th year of his age. Funeral services will be held at the New York Av Church, corner of New York av and Bergen st, Brooklyn, on Wednesday, July 30, 1902, at 2 P. M. Interment in Greenwood. (Boston papers please copy.)
