Anna came to America in May 1850 with parents Ole and Cecelia Skjeftun. Ole came from Hjeluneland, Sagn, Norway. Both Ole and Cecelia died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin of cholera in late 1850. Anna and Andrew had 6 children:

OBITUARY
Mrs. Anna Peterson, nee Skifthun, was born in Norway on the second day of October 1823. On the 10th of May 1850, she came to America and on November 2nd, 1854 she was married to Andrew W. Peterson. Mr. Peterson died on the 14th of April this year and since his death his wife, who for many years has been of feeble health, went gradually down until death finally came and cut the thread of life. She died on Monday September 7th and was buried on the 9th of the same month in the Luther Valley Cemetery, Rev. J. A. Bergh officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Peterson had six children of whom three are dead and three living, Henry and Gilman Peterson and Mrs. Ivar Sater. They were all at the funeral that was also attended by a number of relatives from Janesville and Beloit.
