Swansea - John Robert Spires, 78, of 205 West 6th St., died Friday. Born in Orangeburg County, he was a son of the late Peter and Della Curtis Spires. A World War II Army veteran, he was a retired logger. Surviving are daughters, Ann Owens of Gaston and Lorene Swanger of Lyman; sons, Robert J. and Randolph Spires, both of Lexington and Leroy and Lonnie Spires, both of Gaston; and a sister, Polly Spires of Swansea. Services will be held at 4 p.m. today at Culler Funeral Home of North, with burial in Spires Cemetery near Neeses. © The State, Columbia, SC, 19 May 1991
