ST. GEORGE--Joseph L. Empey, 75, pioneer resident of St. George, died suddenly Tuesday shortly before 6 p.m. while shopping of a heart attack.
Mr. Empey had been apparently in the best of health all day, attending to his duties as custodian of the county courthouse and in the St. George L.D.S. temple.
Born in Salt Lake City September 2, 1860, Mr. Empey was a son of William A. and Mary Porter Empey. He was married December 21, 1884, to Miss Rosalthea Orvilla Liston. He had been active in L.D.S. church work during his entire life.
He is survived by his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Bessie Law, Beaver, and Mrs. Orvilla Daly, St. George; three sons, Clifford Empey of Salt Lake City; William and Nelson Empey of St. George; 17 grandchildren, and the following brothers and sisters: Arthur E. Empey, Rigby, Idaho; Mrs. Sarah Ann Stout, LaVerkin; Mrs. Mary E. Thomas, Charles F. and Heber Empey, all of St. George.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the St. George L.D.S. stake tabernacle, under the direction of Harold Snow of the South ward bishopric.
Burial will be in St. George city cemetery.
