GALE MARY ELIZABETH GALE, age 75, died Feb. 6, 2011, at JFK Medical Center. Beloved daughter of the late Ben Purse Gale of Chestertown, MD and Mary Blossom Lee of Palm Beach, FL. Mrs. Gale was a member of the Bingham/Blossom family who settled originally in Palm Beach in 1893 and were close friends of Henry Flagler. Mrs. Gale, known to all her family and friends as Meg, was born in Cleveland, OH on December 3, 1935. She attended Laurel School, and later Ashley Hall, Lake Erie College, and Florida Atlantic University. An avid domino player, Meg was an author, philanthropist, and good friend to all. Generous in spirit and caring to a fault, Meg lived life to the fullest. Author of Mountain Boy in the City, she loved to travel throughout the southeastern United States doing research for the articles she wrote for southern travel magazines. She lived all of her adult life in the Palm Beach area and supported numerous local charitable causes. In particular, she was a devoted and long-time supporter of the Florida Open International Wheelchair Tennis Championship in Boca Raton, FL, and was an environmental activist in helping to preserve the Everglades. Late in her life she converted to Catholicism and was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church. Meg is predeceased by her two sons, Andy and Luke Eggers. She is survived by her step-mother, Mrs. Ellen T. Gale of Chestertown, MD; four brothers and one sister: Benjamin Gale of Upperville, VA, Thomas Hoyt Gale of Centreville, MD, Christopher Thomas Gale of Fallston, MD, William Page Gale of Chestertown, MD, and Ellen Gale Conner of Cliff City, MD. She is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews; and six great nieces and nephews. Meg befriended virtually all who touched her life. She will be particularly missed for her humor and sparkle by her long-time friends and distinguished employees, Jose Gomez, Claudina Healy, and Claudina's three children.
