Thomas Shockley and Rachel Crider were married March 26, 1829 in Gasconade Co by J.P. Samuel Burchard. Prior to 1845, he donated his land at Mt. Sterling,in Gasconade, Co. for the county seat. He and four of his sons served in the Union Army.
