Bernice was born on December 29, 1926, in Laurium, a daughter of Edward and Mary (Sweet) Macomber. She attended Calumet Schools and for 10 years she worked for CLK Electronics.
On October 11, 1947, Bernice married Albert Butkovich at Sacred Heart Church in Calumet. On October 4, 1973, he passed away.
Bernice enjoyed spending time with family and playing cards. She was known as a sports fanatic. Her favorite teams included the Detroit Red Wings, the Tigers and the Lions. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, National Catholic Society of Foresters and Laurium Senior Citizens Center.
Bernice was preceded in death by one grandson, William Plante, Jr.; two sisters, Gertrude Lamerand and Florence Bolf; four brothers, Lawrence, Paul, Ernest and Clarence Macomber.
She is survived by one son, Albert (Karen) Butkovich, Jr. of Laurium; two daughters, Susan (Donald) Timonen of Bumbletown and Mary (Marc) Scott of Nisula; nine grandchildren, Michelle (Stephen) O'Dell; Steven (Angela) Plante; Brianne Plante; Scott (Holly) Stumpf; Jesse Butkovich; Brandon Butkovich; Karissa Butkovich; and Cory Fountaine; six great-grandchildren, Christopher and Bradley Plante; Jade O'Dell; Ella and Aidan Stumpf; and Rion and Anen Fountain; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special niece Marie Danis.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet with Deacon Art Stancher to officiate.
Burial will be at the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
