Eleanor Alice Matukaitis, 86, of 350 W. Fourth St., died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, in Shamokin Area Community Hospital, where she was a patient since Monday.
Born in Mount Carmel on April 20, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Wanda (Gredzinski) Wasileski. She was a lifelong resident of Mount Carmel and was employed at the Lady Jane Factory and Wasileski's Store in Mount Carmel.
She attended Our Mother of Consolation Grade School and was a 1940 graduate of Mount Carmel High School.
On June 11, 1946, in Our Mother of Consolation Church, Mount Carmel, she married the late Burton Matukaitis, who preceded her in death on March 5, 1984.
She was a member of Divine Redeemer Church, formerly Our Mother of Consolation, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Rambler's Club and a member of the Yanni's Club.
She is survived by her children, Robert Matukaitis and wife Sandra, Joan Reiner and husband David, and Thomas Matukaitis and wife Judy, all of Kulpmont; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Eshmont, of Baltimore, Md. and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Leonard Wasileski.
