John W. Sisson, one of the leading farmers of Otter Creek township, is a native of Virginia, born March 7, 1813. He is a son of Abner and Susanna (Hardy) Sisson, both natives of Virginia. In the fall of 1820 they removed from Virginia to Jefferson county, Ky. John W. came to the state of Illinois in May 1837, and settled in Macoupin county, where he lived until 1850, then moved to Jersey county and located where he now resides, on Sec. 13, Otter Creek township. He owns a well improved farm of 295 acres. His residence is a handsome structure, erected at a cost of $8,000. His barn and other farm buildings are of a corresponding description. Mr. Sisson was married in Feb. 1843, to Martha J. Eaton, a native of Kentucky. They are the parents of eight children: Susan S., wife of Charles Stephenson, of Nebraska; Henry Hardy, now in Nebraska; John Franklin, living in Logan county, Ill.; Louisa Maria, wife of Shepherd Bell, of Nebraska; Emma Cordelia, wife of Israel Noble, of Jersey county; Jessie May, living with her parents; Cyrus Ausbury and Olive Augusta, also living at home. He is engaged in general farming. He came here in very limited circumstances, and his present highly prosperous condition is due entirely to his own industry and wise management.

Married in Madison County, Illinois, 1843, February 16th, by Rev. John Young, to Martha Jane Eaton, born in Jefferson County, Kentucky, near Louisville, on Goose Creek, two miles north of Middletown, in 1827, April 16th. Died near Otterville, Jersey County, Illinois, 1894, December 20th,
Buried near Otterville, III., in Dougherty cemetery. Daughter of Thomas and Sarah (King) Eaton. She came to Illinois with her parents in 1836, from Kentucky and settled on a farm near Fosterburg, near Alton, Madison
County, Illinois. She was a member of Methodist Church more than fifty years.

John W. Sisson moved with his parents from Botetourt County, Virginia, to Jefierson County, Kentucky, in the fall of 1820. In the fall of 1837 he moved to Macoupin County, Illinois, on a farm. In March, 1850, with his
wife, children, mother and sisters, he settled on a farm near Otterville, Jersey County, Illinois, where he resided until his death, December 27th, 1896.

Occupation, farmer. Children, six daughters and four sons as follows:
Susan Sarah, born 1844, March 16th, in Macoupin County, Illinois. Died 1924, January 6th, in Lincoln, Nebr. Buried in Seward County, Nebraska. Married to Charles Preston Stephenson, in 1867, October 24th.

Henry Hardy Sisson, born 1846, January 12th, in Macoupin County, Illinois. Died 1915, December 25th, in Palacios, Matagorda County, Texas. Married to Clare Robinson in 1867, November 19th, Pawnee City, Nebr.

John Franklin Sisson, born 1847, Oct. 30th, in Macoupin County, Illinois. Died 1906, July 28th, at Lincoln, Logan County, Illinois. Married to Eliza Jane Myers in 1870, March 9th, in Logan County, Illinois.

Louisa Maria Sisson, born 1849, November 3rd, in Macoupin County, Illinois. Died 1930, July 6th, Lincoln, Nebr. Buried in Kansas City, Mo. Married to Shepard S. Bell, in 1876, March 16th, in Logan County, Illinois.

Emma Cordelia Sisson, born 1852, April 3rd, in Jersey County, Illinois. Died 1925, July 8th, at Alton, Madison County, Illinois. Married to Israel Carlyle Noble, in 1875,November 25th, in Jersey County, Illinois.

Newton Wesley Sisson, born 1854, January 18th, in Jersey County, Illinois. Died 1855, June 1st, in Jersey County, Illinois. Buried in Edwardsville cemetery, Madison County, Illinois.

Martha Virginia Sisson, born 1857, May 19th, in Jersey County, Illinois. Died 1942, November 14th, at St. Anthony's Infirmary at Alton, Madison County, Illinois. Unmarried.

Cyrus Asbury Sisson, born 1864, February 25th, in Jersey County, Illinois. Unmarried.

Olive Augusta Sisson, born 1867,February 23rd, in Jersey County, Illinois. Died l94l, September 26th, at St. Anthony's Infirmary, at Alton, Madison County, Illinois. Married to Albert Lincoln Lamb, in 1903, Januuary 1st in Jerseyville, Illinois.
