Cecil Harlien, 76, of Caldwell, died Thursday, March 2, 2006, at his residence in Caldwell. Mr. Harlien was born April 18, 1929 in Evant, Texas to Rufus Walter and Minnie Mae (Raye) Harlien. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Caldwell. Cecil accepted Jesus at the age of 13 and was baptized in Popolote Creek near Skidmore, Texas. He attended school for one day, and that was for his brother, according to Cecil, in Hamilton, Texas. He moved to Caldwell from Crosby, Texas in early 1970.

On February 8, 1975 he was married to Viola Davis. Mr. Harlien was retired from the oil industry and was a rancher. He was a lifetime and very active member of the Burleson County Go Texan Association, the Burleson County Fair Association, a past master and a lifetime member of the Warren Masonic Lodge # 56 of Caldwell, a lifetime member of the York Rite, Scottish Rite and was a member of the Shrine. He was a charter member of the Deer Park and Huffman Masonic Lodges. He loved and enjoyed people and working with horses.

Survivors include his wife, Viola Harlien of Caldwell, two sons and daughters-in-law, Mel and Phyllis Harlien of Grandbury, Texas, Dane and Debbie Harlien, and one daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Jim Prokupek all of Crosby, Texas. He is further survived by one step-son and daughter-in-law, Murphy and Bonnie Davis of Wichita Falls, step-daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Tommy Novosad and step-daughter-in-law, Jan Davis, all of Caldwell. Surviving grandchildren are Trey and Truett Novosad, Shawn Davis, Lisa Russell, Sally Green, Scott Graham, Colby, Murphy, Jr. and Brad Davis, Traci Lindstrom, Kelli Pugh, Brent Harlien, Heath Harlien, Michael Harlien and Julie Harlien. Great-grandchildren include Ethan and Chance Pugh, Blake Lindstrom, Karsen Harlien, Riley Davis, Shelby and Kindall Davis, Sienna Davis, Austin Novosad, Randi Novosad and Alex Davis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, four sisters and his step-son Jim Ed Davis.

Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday at Strickland Funeral Home, with the family present between the hours of 6 and 8 P.M.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 4, 2006 in Strickland Funeral Home, Caldwell with the Rev. Steven Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Masonic Cemetery

Serving as pallbearers will be: J. W. Sebesta, Bubba Mantey, Brent Harlien, Truett Novosad, Trey Novosad, Heath Harlien, Michael Harlien, Brad Davis, Colby Davis, Murphy Davis, Scott Graham, Shawn Davis and Steve Green. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the J. D. Watson Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church in Caldwell.
