MOUNT VERNON -- James Estil "Red" Conley, formerly of Mount Vernon, passed away Oct. 9, 2011, in Decatur, Ala.
He was born June 7, 1926, in Estil, Ky., the son of Sam and Emma Conley.
James was united in marriage to Alice May Compton on Dec. 23, 1944, in Pikeville, Ky., and she preceded him in death Nov. 26, 2002. Mr. Conley was a retiree from Inland Steel Coal Company and a member of Little Nancy Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, in Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home in Martin, Ky. Burial will be in Little Cemetery in Price, Ky. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at the funeral home.
Mr. Conley is survived by his son, Jimmy Michael Conley (Suzanne) of Athens, Ala.; and granddaughters, JoAnna (Michael) Flota, Elizabeth (Mark) Christie and Bethany Smith-Conley; grandson, Anthony Smith; great-grandchildren, Makayla and Briley Christie, Haley and Alyssa LaBelle and Nevaeh and Anthony Smith; brothers, Herman, Don, Cecil and Edward "Pete" Conley; and sisters, Willa Bentley and June Hemphill.
In addition to his wife, Alice; Red was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Burt; sister, Beatrice; and granddaughter, Constance LaBelle.
Family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Mr. Conley's name to or Hospice.
