Betty Lou Hersemann, 84, of rural Glasford, Ill., passed away at 1:36 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at her residence.

Born Sept. 1, 1927, in Peoria, Ill., to Merle and Hazel (Wilson) Hornbaker, she married Erwin Hersemann in 1967 in East Peoria, Ill. He preceded her in death in 1995 in Glasford, Ill.

Surviving are her brother, Lee Hornbaker of Glasford, several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Donald and John Hornbaker.

Betty Lou worked as a secretary in the quality control department at Caterpillar Inc. for 30 years before retiring.

She was a volunteer for the V.A. Center in Peoria for many years, she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 35 in Glasford, was active in Peoria Players and helped with charities of Native American Indians.

Betty Lou was a very caring, loving individual who supported various charities in the community.

Funeral services for Betty Lou will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at Glasford United Methodist Church in Glasford, Ill., with the Rev. Walter Wilkins officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at Davison-Fulton Woolsey Glasford Chapel and 30 minutes prior to the services at church. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery in Glasford, Ill.

Memorial contributions may be made to Glasford United Methodist Church or American Legion Post 35 Auxiliary of Glasford.
