son of Richard William Dowse and his wife Catherine Mackay Dowse, then of 9, Montague Street, Dublin.
He was baptised at St. Peter's Church, Aungier Street, Dublin, on 17 April 1884.

In the 1901 census, the Dowse family were living at 3, Harcourt Street, Dublin.
The family consisted of
Richard William Dowse, aged 51, M.A., TCD, a University Tutor, born in Dublin,
Catherine Dowse, his wife, aged 43, born in Newry, Co. Down,
They had 13 children, ranging in age from 19 to 1.

Herbert Dowse married Florence Anne Andrews in 1908.

In the 1911 census, the Dowse family lived at 47, Percy Place, Dublin.
Present were,
Herbert Dowse, aged 29, a clerk in a Fire Insurance company, born in Dublin.
Florence Annie, his wife, aged 27, born in Dublin County.
Stella, their daughter, aged 2, born in Dublin city.
They had been married 3 years and had 1 child.
Frederick Andrews, father-in-law, aged 72, a master painter, born in Dublin.
Anna Andrews, mother-in-law, aged 70, born in Dublin.
3 boarders were also present.
They lived in a 6 roomed house.


His son Arthur Patrick Dowse, who was an RAF pilot, died in WW2.

His son Herbert Richard Dowse, who was an RAF pilot, died in WW2.

Richard William Dowse died on 24 Dec. 1919, at 4, Clanwilliam Place, Dublin.
Catherine Dowse died in Sept. 1938.
Frederick Andrews died in 1918.

William E. Trimble was the owner/editor of "The Impartial Reporter" newspaper, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh.

Bertha, married Louis William Warner, of Sylhet, India [now in Bangladesh], son of J.F. Warner, of 19 Cambridge Road, Rathmines, on 20 October 1915, at St. Peter's Church.
