Niagara Falls Gazette, Friday, April 8, 1949:
Frederick F. Barnum, 73, of the Town Line road, supervisor for the Town of Wilson, died today at Memorial hospital here following a short illness. Mr. Barnum suffered a heart attack at his home Monday which was his seventy-third birthday. He was removed to the hospital the following day.
Mr. Barnum was one of the best known and most active residents of Wilson despite his advanced age. A native of Niagara Falls, he resided here until 35 years ago when he went to Wilson and took up farming as a career. He retired from active work 14 years ago. He was a member of the Niagara County Farm bureau and a former member of the Grange and Odd Fellows lodge. He was an active member of the Exley Methodist church and at the time of his death was serving as a trustee.
In politics Mr. Barnum was a Democrat and last fall defeated Victor Berlin for supervisor in a spirited contest. Mr. Berlin had been a member of the county board for many years and had served as its chairman. Previous to that Mr. Barnum had served as Wilson town highway superintendent for 12 years. Mr. Barnum is survived by his wife Mrs. Maude Crossman Barnum; a daughter, Mrs. Roberta Albright, Hempstead, L. I.; two sons, Frederic C. Barnum, Barker, and Whitney Barnum, Wilson; eight grandchildren and one brother, William Barnum this city.
Funeral services will be held at the family home Sunday at 2:30 p. m. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Wilson.
