U.S. Congresswoman. She graduated from Brenau College and was married to Georgia attorney and Congressman W. Benjamin Gibbs. In 1940, she was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-sixth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of her husband W. Benjamin Gibbs, serving until 1941. She was the first woman to represent the State of Georgia, in the U.S. Congress. After her term, she lived in retirement until her death at age 74.
