A funeral service for Elsie Thompson of Roseau, MN was held on Monday, October 10, 2011 at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Roseau at 10:30.

Visitation was on Sunday from 5-7 p.m. with a devotional service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation was also one hour prior to the service at the church.

Elsie Ann Thompson passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Life Care Manor in Roseau, MN, at the age of 88 years.

Elsie was born on July 9, 1923 in Lankin, ND, to Frank and Annie (Noha) Witt. When she was 12, her family moved to Strathcona, MN, where she met her future husband, Lyle Thompson. Elsie and Lyle were married on February 18, 1941 in Minneapolis, MN.

Elsie and Lyle lived in Strathcona, where they farmed in Poplar Grove Township. They raised their children on the farm, and kept the family fed with a large garden and their own meat. They grew small grain crops, and raised turkeys, dairy and beef cows, chickens, horses, pigs and sheep.

They were members of Klondike Church, which later merged with Nannestad Church to become Faith Lutheran Church. Elsie was a member of the Ladies Aid, and she and Lyle were members of the Sons of Norway.

After retiring from farming in 1988, they moved to Roseau, MN. Lyle passed away in 1993. Elsie enjoyed cooking for everyone, and she always had coffee and treats ready for visitors. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved to hear about their activities.

She is survived by her children, Donald (Darlene) Thompson of Warroad, MN; Marlene (Arne) Isane of Badger, MN. and Michael Thompson of St. Cloud, MN; Grandchildren, Joan, Wyann, Dawn, Richard, Jean, Lynelle, Paul, Audrey, Julene, Deanne, Shayne, Kari, Jamie and Christina. Elsie also is survived by 37 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle; Son, Doyle; infant daughter, Eldora; granddaughter, Lynette Severson; and grandson, Jason Isane.
