Born in Fiume (Now Crotia).

Her birth name was Majika Susnic'(or, in English, "Susnich") and was originally born in a municipality called The Free State of Fiume, which was at that time under the control of the Austria/Hungarian family of Hapsburg. After WWI The Free State of Fiume (pronounced [ˈfjume]) was an independent free state which existed between 1920 and 1924. Its territory of 11 sq mi comprised the city of Fiume (now in Croatia and known as Rijeka) and rural areas to its north, with a corridor to its west connecting it to Italy.

According to her passport, she and her mother and siblings arrived in the U.S. in 1890 eventually settling in Galveston, Galveston County, Texas

Her husband, Nathan Bell (born Aron Natan Bolsham) was a Russian Jew who stowed away on a tramp steamer from Odessa (now Ukrain) Russia circa late 1890's. He changed his name when he converted to Catholicism is the 1920's. He was 19 years her senior and died in 1943.
