Willie married Lucy Parker on March 25, 1906, and died in August 1906 of appendicitis. They had no children and Lucy later married John Buchanan.
In the 27 Mar 1907 Waxahachie Daily Light, this notice appeared: The Woodmen of the World will have an unveiling at Mountain Peak the third Sunday in April, the monument being over the grave of a deceased member, Mr. Herring, who died some time ago. These ceremonies are always solemn, sad and very impressive.
In the 5 Jun 1907 Waxahachie Daily Light:.
A large congregation of people assembled at Mountain Peak Sunday to witness the unveiling ceremonies over the grave of W. F. Herring by W. O. W. Venus' camp took part in the ceremonies. About 100 members were in the procession. Professors Hendricks and King made interesting talks, and Miss Edna Baricom, of Milford, recited the beautiful poem, Gray's Eulogy to a Church Yard, in a very impressive manner. The weather was favorable and a good behavior prevailed.
