Thomas David Ashford, 86, of Powderly, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, in Paris at which time Bright-Holland Funeral Home received him into their care.

Services are set for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Red Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 6-8:00 p.m. Monday, April 14, at the funeral home.

He was born June 7, 1916, in Lamar County to Lawrence Mills Ashford and Stella Coward Ashford.

He married Frances Kinworthy in June of 1937.

He was retired from the Maintenance Division of the Texas Department of Transportation.

He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1946 during WW II, base camp-Mineral Wells-Guam.

He serviced the bomber Enola Gay before it dropped the first Atomic Bomb on Japan.

He loved the outdoors, gardening, dominoes, dancing, and playing bingo.

He was a member of the V.F.W.

He was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Allen Ashford on March 3, 1984; his parents; three brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Frances; three daughters, two sons, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
