On Monday night, June 13, the death angel visited the home of Mr. J.W. Abernathy and carried away the spirit of his loving wife, Belle. She had only been sick a short while and her death was a shock to her many friends.
The end came peacefully and quietly with her loved ones near her bedside.
Loved ones and friends, faithful to the end in their diligent and tender nursing of her, administered to her every want and need.
She always had a smile and a cheerful word for everyone, and her loving voice and sweet face is sadly missed in the home that has been made desolate by her going.
Belle had many friends and her cheerful view of life and her going assured us she was unafraid to go into the larger life that awaited her.
She was laid to rest by one of her little children, who died a few years ago, Mr. W.R. Abernathy conducting the funeral service. A large crowd gathered to pay their last tribute to the deceased, and her grave was covered with beautiful flowers.
She is survived by her husband, Mr. J.W. Abernathy, four little children, Charlie, Grady, Nellie Belle and Lawrence; her father, Mr. Jesse Wilson, one sister, Miss Lucy Wilson; eight brothers, Mr. Lee Wilson of near Marietta; Messrs. Jim, O.D., Gus and John Wilson, of Kentucky and Tommie, Clarence and DeWitt Wilson, of near Corbin, besides a host of relatives and friends.
(a poem was included) By Mrs. E.R. Abernathy
[NOTES: Wife of John W. Abernathy; Daughter of Jesse Wilson and Amanda Hunnicutt; Written by Susan Naomi Howell Abernathy, her sister-in-law. She is buried at Old Macedonia Cemetery.]
